when it's ready to. And the weirdest things will bring it on. Like today I had to make a phone call to the town office, I've talked to them before and it's never bothered me. My stomach gets tied up in knots when I go to the same Dr I've been seeing for 7 years! Going to Wal Mart can do it sometimes and the last 2 weeks attending the same chruch I have been going to for 9 yrs gave me heart palpitations! I feel like I am shaking all over.. I can't get into see the phyciatrist until Oct 18. So what kinds of things have to tried or heard of? Any home remedies or tricks? I have one med now for anxiety. And it does wonders for all the "What if's" The other one made me so sleepy I couldn't take it. But what's so weird is that I didn't feel this way BEFORE , I've been off it now for a few weeks.
So in the meantime, I'd really love to be able to calm down. I see a counsleor too starting Oct 3.
While you're waiting to see professional help, read all you can on the web about what other people do. And try to get in touch with your feelings when you feel it starting up. Am I feeling fear? Anger? Excitement? Does it happen when you're along or just when you have to deal with people? Etc. Write it all down so you'll be able to give your professionals a clear picture of what's going on with you.

I have heard that breathing into a paper bag for a few minutes will help. Go to the doctor and describe your problems. You may need to be placed on a medication to prevent these attacks.

You do need to figure out what it is that scares you so much. My sister had this same problem and they found that it wasn't her "nerves"……she had a heart murmur. They gave her a beta blocker and VOILA! No more panic attacks. Talk to your doctor and see if you have high blood pressure, irregular heart beats, high pulse, etc.

wow am i going through the same thing. I have had financial difficulty this past year and as soon as my self confidence plummetted I have had anxiety attacks. I want to answer the question by saying perhaps your self confidence (and mine) at a higher level will help ease them. For the short term have you tried rolling your stomach muscles from top of ribcage down toward pelvis while exhaling slowly with your lips slightly open? it has helped me . good luck, and lets both get over this!

I take 1/2 teaspoonful of inositol and put it under my tongue. Then a chase it with 8 oz. of cold water. It works every time. If you take SAMe, 5-HTP and L-Tyrosine every day, you won't have panic attacks at all.
Get a copy of "The Serenity Prayer" and hang it on your wall. Read it every day and try to live by it.

I too suffered from panic attacks. I had a tremendous amount of stress in my life at the time. The doctor said that is what brought them on. The problem was they continued to get worse even though I got rid of a lot of the stress at the time. I ended up going on Paxil. I really wasn't crazy about going on medication, but I could hardly go anywhere without having an attack. So Paxil worked for me. I never had a panic attack when I was on it. I had to stay on it for a few years, but slowly went off of it and I'm fine now. I also was told to take deep breaths that this would work. I found that didn't help at all. But then someone told me that you need to talk. Call someone on the phone or get them over to your house and just keep talking. I know, it sounds weird, but it works. I guess it's a way to get your mind off of the attack. I wish you the best. I know how you feel. I had attacks so bad that once I was taken by ambulance because I thought I was having a heart attack. The heart palpitations were so fast. If you have to go on medication, just know you won't have to stay on it forever. Some medications work, others don't. So I hope you find the one that works for you.

I am going through the same thing. I know exactly how you feel/ Talking to the same people and going to same places for years, and all of a sudden just won't stop shaking. I tried to breath, and breathing in a paper bag too, but it won't help much. It really helps to some people, but didn't do much for me. It goes away, but it also comes back from time to time. I didn't go to see a doctor yet. I think I really need to, because it interferes with my work and social life BIG time.
Here some things that help me:
Breathing hard through a paper rolled in a straw helps for a minute (just enough to go through a cash register ina grocery store before running out of there).
NO coffee! Drinking coffee definitely makes it worse.
Also, no sodas and teas. Only water and juices.
In Safeway grocery store I found a medicine called "Rescue Remedy" in a natural remedies and vitamins section. It is a homeopathic remedy and it is a natural stress relief. It helps to restore a sense of calm and control. It comes in a very tiny container (10 ml) and you take 4 drops of it in a small glass of water, or directly on or under the tongue. Can be repeated as necessary. It costed around $9. It is made in England by Bach Flower Remedies Ltd., and distributed in US by Nelson Bach USA, Ltd., Wilmington, MA 01887.
I hope you will start feeling better.

I've had the same problem… I started taking yoga and it helped tremendously. I had to eventually stop taking it b/c it conflicted w/ school and other things I had going on. Also, try to figure out what's behind it and the cause, maybe stress or you might have too much going on, or something else. Just try not to think about it either, if you feel it coming on, get busy with something else and get your mind off of it. I noticed the more you dwell on it the more likely it is to happen. I was on meds before but decided that it was not for me, so now I just try to control it on my own. going to church has helped a lot. good luck!
